This is a fantastic movie. The story is great. The cast is superb, James Mason, my favorite supporting German officer - Anton Diffring, Ursula Andress - in a towel!!!!, Jermey Kemp and did I mention you get Ursula Andress - in a towel!!!
The DVD box art is weird because it features Geo Peppard in an infantry uniform, which he is out of three minutes into the movie. BTW the uniforms for the German aviators are a mess. German WWI pilots retained the uniforms of their former regiments. The Red Baron posed in his Ulan cavalry uniform for a very famous portrait and the custom designer for the Blue Max assumed that was a German air force uni. So, EVERYONE wears a cavalry uniform. Other than that, the music is great and the aerial photography is stunning. BTW, Peppard was an avid pilot and did all his own flying in the movie.
Saw it as a kid in the theaters when it premiered, it still packs a wallop.
