He had had open heart surgery in January and was doing ok, but in February he started to have serious problems with other body functions. There will be a memorial service for Fred in St. Petersburg, Florida this coming Saturday, March 8th. Those who attended the DX'06 in Anaheim, got to meet him, hear his story, and maybe picked up his exclusive figure. http://www.dxpo.com/dx/06/vip/vip-fred-bio.asp Fred had a full and wonderful life. He talked with us for as long as we wanted and was very gracious. I bought a copy of his book which he autographed and read it cover to cover twice. He was a good German soldat and a fine American. I have his action figure autographed by him along with Pete the mule. He was even nice enough to autograph the copy of Lee's toy magazine with his figure on the cover. A true class act.
