I remeber months ago when it was released the debate, but did anyone found a good solution on how to make it look OK.. Ithought about cutting the inlay and fill each 'sausage' with stuff or something... but wasn't sure of the outcome....has anyone pics of customs wotk on it? Thanks in advance.. HAVE A GUINNESS DAY !!

Posts: 1666 (06/28/09 04:35:56) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	It was always going to be a tough call reproducing the sausage style lifevest and for just giving it a go DML deserve credit...it did'nt quite come up to expectation but just take a close look at it and take in how much work went in to the effort...the kapok filling is were it probably went wrong, if they had used upholsterer's piping cord (used for the piping around cushions & sofa's) i think it would have turned out a lot better...i have tried cutting a small hole in the back of each section and filling it out with more of the same material that DML used but due to the sections being sown so close this only makes the sections firmer and does'nt make it any more pronounced to give the sausage link effect any depth...i think Dubar1 made the best attempt to give it some depth by using a pencil to shade in the area's were the sewing divides each sausage link...i think the photo's have now been removed but i could be wrong...i'm sure if Dubar1 see's this thread he will add a lot more info and hopefully re-post the photo's. Here's the only picture I could find of a weathered vest (left) and an unaltered vest: I used a small tipped black marker instead of a pencil (but a pencil may also work) to darken the sewings lines to make it appear to have more depth, then weathered the rest of the vest with using a box of chalks I got at Michaels to cut down on that yellow shine. I was thinking of using a hypodermic needle of some kind to insert something into each "sausage" but can't figure out what to use for filler. Not sure if you could distribute the stuff evenly anyway. IMO Dragon made a good attempt, but I feel they should try a different approach if they decide to make more. Gotta keep the "Steps Ahead" concept alive!!! Smell the plastic

Posts: 1667 (06/28/09 06:28:56) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Thanks for showing the photo Dubar1,i doubt that the filling will work...if there was slightly more slack in each sausage link you could fill them out to create the depth but all you actually accomplish by filling them as they are is making each section firmer....i filled out one half which believe me was very very time consuming with no joy at all...it's a shame DML did'nt try out the piping cord you can actually sew straight across that with no problem either but i appreciate the effort that DML put in in trying to recreate that particular item...that was their first attempt so you never know next time around they may try something else. I'll give a try to the weathering....and you are right Dan, filling won't work because you'll need a 'longer' distance from sticht to stich to be filled, and there's none here HAVE A GUINNESS DAY !!
