Pretty cool Joe!
When you think about it, those guys had "a pair". It was only a dozen or so years since the Wright Bros. first flew, they didn't really use parachutes or hardly any other safety devices, and the planes were fabric covered!!! I really like the WWI planes though, they look graceful. Back in the 70s there used to be a group of airline pilots that flew vintage planes on the weekend up near Fredericksburg VA (actually Bealeton) and I went a number of times to watch them and get close to the planes. They had a fire one year and most if not all the WWI planes burned. The Nieuports were my favorite but the SPAD looked sturdier. Here's their current website: FLYING CIRCUS AERODROME Come to think of it, I never did see that WWI movie about the fly-boys that came out a couple of years ago. Does anyone know if it was any good?

Joe,
I think I liked the Red Baron better. The Flyboys seemed more like I was watching game screens. Is Red Baron out on DVD?

in the movie "Flyboys". Enjoy!

Here's something that may interest you, more so now that it's $300 instead of $500.
http://www.frontgate.com/jump.jsp?itemType=PRODUCT&itemID=18945&fromNewSearch=true&mercadoResultId=0&nrpAltSearch=false&altText=null I got one from a friend who works there, and it had damaged landing gear, and he got it for $150. If you look at the dimensions, and check the measurements of the real thing, this is just about 1/6 scale. If it wasn't so big, I'd take it outside to get some good pictures, but I'll have to settle for some inside shots. Mark |
