the infamous pic of Meindl wearing the oakleaf FJ smock
. I had heard something about this, but could find no more information. Kamouflage.net also quotes from the same source in reference to this photo. Is there anymore information about this image? |

Schultz, the only other person that's confirmed something was Auggie Romero (BGT), but again, no one has provided the name of the book or where the photo
was taken/what period etc or what forum to look for the pic.
Always seems to be a dead-end...

I really like the looks of the Variegated camo pattern I would like the grab some eventually if they ever get made. I really get confused with German camo so
much of it looks the same to me if I do not see them side by side. The Germans probably were the king of the camo uni back during W.W.II I don't think any
military service had as many different patterns that were all used during one war. I love camo though I belong to a couple camo uni groups and I have a lot of
modern camo stuff. I wish I could afford repro W.W.II German stuff.

There is a photo of Sturmgewehr magazine pouches made from Italian patteren camo material in Waffen-SS Camouflage Uniforms &
Post-War Derivatives (Europa Militaria No. 18) by Daniel Peterson. The caption to the photo, which is of a model
dressed in original gear, reads as follows:
"(Bottom p. 48) This jacket is patterned on the M1944-type field blouse, and appears to be individually produced from the heavier cloth usually employed for the shelter section. Italian pattern Sturmgewehr magazine pouches are known from photos, and these appear genuine." The author does not mention the whereabouts of the original period photos of the Italian camo StG magazine pouches but he does believe that the ones pictured in his book are real wartime artifacts. |

Kar43 - that's exactly what I was saying.
It also mentions pics of Italian camo MP44 pouches, but in both cases doesn't exactly say *where* those photos are at (books, private collection, etc.)Kinda frustrating when someone posts about something unique being out there, but it's more frustrating when reputable sources themselves (like Europa's and Schiffer's) mentions something too and then kinda leaves ya hanging! They always start with "The author has seen..." You'd think as popular as Italian camo seems to be, these pics would be easily referenced. Sorry for straying off topic a bit. Time heals all wounds. Who knows what will be found & confirmed next.

I received the 3 volume set yesterday, why didn't i bought these earlier?!
So far i only skipped through all three books but i've seen a lot of beautiful images that are very inspiring. These books sure belong in everybody's collection if you're interested in the Waffen SS and related branches.
