March 15th 1999 was when dear old Hans was born and I hope with all my heart that DML does not let it slide by without marking it in someway. I'm hoping that they will announce and release in quick succession an updated Hans with a much older sculpt, even a post-war civilian. What would you like to see Hans appear as 10 years on, lets have a bit of fun and speculate. And guys lets keep the anti-DML negativity out of this one, lets just slip back 10 years to a more fun. innocent time when we all loved the big D fo the new direcions in which it was about to take this hobby, A celebration of what DML has done rather than a whinge-fest about what they are not doing!! That's not being systematically negative, Pieter, that's being realistic by hoping they respond. Then, there are still 2 years, I would have gladly speculated about a possible very good surprise by Dragon. Today, I wonder if that is still useful ... Or then, let's say that a step backwards in the time of their "golden age" (with excellent and complete Figs, at a real good price, like were Aldo Holder, Erwin Stangenberg, Heinrich Zimm, and so on) would be already for me a good news ! I didn't know anything about DML at the time so when I got home I searched the internet for them to see what I could find. I had been getting Cotswold figures but when I saw Hans I knew I was going to change. I found Voyager Toys (in Houston) online and ordered my 1st Hans from them. When he arrived I opened the box and all I could think of was the smell of that plastic, like I had stepped into Mr. Peabody's Wayback Machine!!! Instant "plastic crack" addiction LOL!!! Smell the plastic (retirement is good)

Posts: 2626 (02/28/09 07:20:27) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	This is a tough one - my gut reaction right now wouuld be quiet negative - I simply don't expect DML to be able to offer a real annivesary gem at this point. And I would rather have them ignore the anniversary than re-release Hans in some half-hearted way. One the other hand - if I should go over in a positive wish-mode - then Hans (if he survived Stalingrad) should have made it to at least leuitnant now - so a late war Hans (Normandy, Arnhem, Ardennes, Berlin) would be great - he could still be in an infantry division or be with a panzergrenadier unit. - or something more exsotic like commander of a werfer battery.... There are still a ton of stuff we miss that could go with such an officer - woooden map case, rulers and plottin equipment, some othere radios, administrative gear like a typewriter, food items - or if he was protrayed as a desperate latewar fighter a wurfmine would be great. When DML came out with Hans, thats when this hobby really took off for me. I bought Hans from Cotswold, and then found the Toy Syndicate on-line, and also e-bay. Getting loose parts without buying the complete figure was an awesome thing! Thats when an e-bay seller Ajaxxx told me about One Sixth Warriors forum. In which I found Monkey Depot! I can't imagine being in this hobby without Dragon figure's. Ah yes, March 15, 1999 a good day indeed. Good kill......

By then, he would be an Oberleutnant. I made a similar bash once, using Peter Schmidt (Soldat 1), and have kept the uniform. (Vomag = Volksoffizier mit Arbeiter Gesicht = Officer of the people with a worker's face, derogative term for officers who rose through the ranks as opposed to those of noble birth.) Try 2/12th scale figures. Twice the detail!

Give him the rank of hauptmann or oberleutnant with multiple combat awards. Arm him with a Sturmgewehr 44, and for a "unique item" maybe some panzerwurfminen (one with the fins open, one with the fins closed). Uniform would consist of an officers tunic, trousers, tall boots, Marsh pattern camo winter jacket, field gray winter overtrousers and an M42 helmet with camo paint and wire mesh. Gear would include one Stg. 44 ammo pouch, mapcase and the obligatory bread bag and canteen. I would buy such a figure in a heartbeat. Glad this thread was brought up and hope the company is considering it. -Dave

Becoming an officer was not an automatic progression. And besides, they already made Klaus go that route. Nope, I'd like to see ol' Hans as a Spiess leading some young scared troops during the final defense. Sure, lots of medals, updated gear, and promotion, but just to senior NCO rank!

A Spiess would be perfect for Hans, just make sure to give him his little black book so he can keep tabs on all his young troops. A pipe would be a nice extra (OK, so I said I don't like things like that). Make him look older, worn out, and haggard. Smell the plastic (retirement is good)

A "ten year" anniversary fig would either portray him as an expat in South America, stuck behind the "curtain", maybe an immigrant to the US, or trying to get on with his life in his homeland .....all ten years later and him ten years older.
