Here's a question that this one brings up -- how prevalent were Sten guns in the PTO? I've seen pics with the Enfields, Thompsons and the Jungle Carbines, but I have rarely seen Stens. Pacific Theater of Operations (PTO) Mediterranean Theater of Operations (MTO) (originally called North African Theater of Operations (NATO), not to be confused with modern day North Atlantic Treaty Organization ) European Theater of Operations(ETO) Also there was South-East Asian Theater, but maybe that was a command and not a theatre? I might be missing a couple of theaters or two. There were also operational commands beneath PTO: -Pacific Ocean Areas (POA) -South West Pacific Area (SWPA) ...and maybe a couple more that slip my mind. You got me curious, I think I'll have to go reading on this a bit. Great looking figure there Navysealbud. I'm not quite sure about the Sten, I remember seeing a Sten equipped to a Brit in my PTO book, but I'll take another look just to be sure.

They had a habit going off only when you didn't want them to . The Thompson was altogether preferred, despite weighing twice as much , but they were simply not available in any numbers , and by '44 were probably unobtainable except by those with Undue Influence . BTW , the expression " PTO " is almost entirely a US usage , and entirely appropriate given the wide area the US Forces were deployed over. As far as the Brits were concerned , it was " Burma " , or at the end of the war with all the re-occupying that went on , " South -East Asia". New Guinea was entirely an Australian concern .
