Man, I hope this isn't because not enough people signed up- registration extended until 6/30- I would hope that Dragon would not stop doing these kinds of
shows- website also shows engine for jeep- for an extra 30 dollars

I would guess it's because of low registration. Personally, I'm tired of the games. No full disclosure of information up front (vendors, items like
t-shirts/souvenirs included with package, exclusives, etc.), plus the only item I'm intersted in has the "optional" engine feature. That's
just plain ridiculous. Why preview a vehicle then withhold an integral part of that vehicle for extra dough? That trully blows and I'm just not going to
take it. Didn't they learn a lesson from last year?
I'll pass on the exclusive and the show. |

I'd hazard a guess that the price ogf Gas, amongst many other things, is having an impact here!

Remember that the reason this stuff is produced in China is because labor is cheap and regulation standards are low. Those are usually the top reasons for an item's cost. |

SnorlaxPaulG wrote: Yes, labor is cheap, but ENERGY costs are rising, and the Labor is not as cheap as it used to be because China has had to stop floating it's currency as much as it used to as part of it's international trade agreements. Oil also = higher shipping costs at all ends. Yes that means even on the freighter across the sea, and the cost of handling the containers in the ship yard. Don't expect prices in our dear hobby to drop any time soon.

Gas certainly has to be a consideradtion. Alot of people just won't be traveling the roads this summer. Overall tight wallets as well - just not too much
$ to float towards 1/6th stuff. (Personally, I think tying it to the modeling show doesn't work very well, but that's my opinion.)
I can also say that I know a couple of forum members who were going, but recent attitudes/customer service by DML has scratched that (myself included). Although I'm far from stoked from anything DML right now, I do hope its successfull. I just think OSF in November layed out a very good template for how these shows should go. Dthstrk - Your guess is as good as ours. Each year is different. You'll have to just keep an eye on the e-tailers and Ebay. Something is bound to pop up for resale, but what & how much is a shot-in-the-dark on our end. Monkey Depot has recently had the Ardennes German figures from DX07 Europe for sale, both loose & boxed (!), but that's almost a year later...

I was referring to attendance at the show, not the cost of producing items. I was merely suggesting that the price of gas in everyones tank may be impacting
the number of attendees, especially out of towners etc., not to mention the increased airfares.
Now, wrt the cost of producing items the cost of a barrel of Brent Crude has just reached $140 and some beleive it'll hit $200 a barrel. It started the 21st Century hovering around the $10 mark, certainly no higher than $20. And that's just the price of a barrel of crude, thats before you factor in refinery costs, transportation costs and then use as an ingredient in the manufacturing of plastics. The you've got further transportation of plastics, , R&D costs, Labour costs, manufacturing costs, product packaging, warehousing, more transportation, import taxes, state taxes, retailer mark-up. It normally takes about 6 - 12 months for all that to work it's way to the end consumer, the prices you're paying today reflect the costs borne by the manufacturer 6 - 12 months ago! I agree, I would imagine a lot of people have to skip it this year. I was planning on going until the cost of everything went up so much and everyone I know in
the 1/6th haobby here in Ma. decide it was to costly to head down there. The thing with hobbies is they are usually one of the first things that feel the
crunch when the econony goes in the crapper like it is now you have to check your priorities. As the dollar gets weaker, the cost of oil goes up and the
Chinese economy keeps growing this stuff is going to cost more and more in the future. Yes labor in China might be cheaper than here in the US but the labor
costs there have doubled in the last year and labor is getting harder to find so it will go up even more. I don't know what DML will do if this show
doesn't bring enough interest or flops. I would imagine it costs them quite a bit to get one going not to mention all the tooling and cost of the
exclusives. DML is in it for the profit if that goes below their expectations it could be it for the DX shows. I don't know about a lot of you guys but the
cost of gas is over 100% more expensive than last year and the cost of groceries have gone up 40% or more. My income hasn't changed 1 penny in the last 6
years. Luckily I have a little saved but let me tell you I am spending that very cautiously right now I can survive for a while but if things don't get
better I'll be digging thru my stuff trying to figure out what to sell.

I may %!#@+ and moan sometimes about DML (just like we did when 21C was in the game), but with the show in my backyard I'll be there. I can't imagine
anyone living nearby not going, you can count the number of past shows in this area on one hand. It's easy to gripe and say you're not going when you
live 1000+ miles from the event (I know, I've done it), but I think it has more to do with the price of gas/travel/overall economy than it does with the
way DML runs things. Plus there's no way DML could have anticipated the bottom dropping out of the economy (if they could our government would have hired
them to fend it off). I expect they'll get a load of walk-ins who will pay the daily entrance fee just to see the IPMS displays, DML figures, and hopefully
deals that can be had at these events.

I registered several days ago, but I have not yet received the E-mail to buy the exclusives? Anybody else in the same boat? Have sent about 10 E-mails to the
dxpo address but have yet to get a reply? Dunbar, did you get anything past the confirmation that you were registered?

Nomad,
Nope, all I got was the initial email. Here's what OH said in one of his posts: You will receive an email shortly titled... I'm sure he meant DX08 and not 07, but I wonder what pushing the deadline back may do to this??? I hope they haven't pushed themselves into a corner. of course, it doesn't take much to send an email to a bunch of people. Here's a link to the post if you can get in and read it: DX08

There will probably be a cutoff date to purchase the exclusives -- July 15, I bet

The only emails I think they have sent out are the Registration confirmations and the special "non-attending" invite to people that have attended all
the past shows.
