DID have not release a WWII German figure for quite some time now and I don't know when and what their next WWII German release will be or if there is even
one coming out any time soon. I want to purchase one or two of their heavy machine gunners to my collection. Can any one comment on these figures from DID and
advise which one do you think is a better buy than the other:
Julius Hanke (MG 42), Albert Halder (MG 34), Herbert Zeller (MG 37) and Peter Greim (PZB41). Thanks in advance for your opinion!!! |

I bought all 4 of the heavy-weapons figures, and I mist say this- each figure is equally good, with some slight differences between each, but metal guns and
tripods all suck. My reccomendation is- buy the figure, replace the gun & tripod with DML (keep the PzB41, as long as its not used too much, it'll hold
together...), and sell the metal guns/tripods. The herbert zeller mg is the one of the 3 mg's that held together the best though.

i am not sure what "quite some time now" means to you. DID released Rommel in 2008, and at least 4 Germans in 2007 (Tim Becker, Albert Halder,
Hermann Weber, and Julius Hanke). So roughly, they released 4 per year last year, and in the first quarter of this year, released one... pretty much on
schedule.
I'm the hard working brother.

DiD did make quite a few.....but they still made too many machinegunners. I do think they're a bit behind schedule though.... herman weber, timo ducca,
julius hanke, albert hadler, tim becker, willi baver, and I'll kinda count karl stroop...he was to be released in dec.06, but it took till near christmas
for them to show in the US...so...thats....uhh...7...they should've made another one by now.

Their next releases are the Napoleonic French Infantry figure and the third figure in their Samurai line. I think they're chugging along just fine, and
I'm sure a new WW2 figure will be along shortly.

Hey Sgt., you may get your wish and they might make a leibermuster parka and trousers.

I have all the DID German Mg's with the tripods and although the Mg's themselves dont have the fine detail of the DML versions (MG34 & MG42) they
actually hang on a figure a lot better than the DML plastic, i prefer to have mine sitting where they are supposed to be rather than falling off the shoulder
the weight helps,i would also say that the tripod which comes with the Czech Mg is a piece of art....to say the DID tripods "suck" is well ott IMHO
with a little fine tuning you will be more than happy with them believe me.

Julius Hanke (MG 42): The problem with the MG is that the ammo drum doesn't fit. The tripod lacks the carrying straps.
Albert Halder (MG 34): The same problem with the ammo drum, plus that the cocking handle is missing. Herbert Zeller (MG 37): Good figure, and as others have said, the best MG of the lot. Peter Greim (PZB41): The box says "Grossdeutschland", but apart from the "GD" cypher on the shoulderboards, the figure is seriously lacking relevant insignia. The Panzerwrap is nice, though.
War is best enjoyed in 1/6th
scale.

I have The metal DiD MG42 and the DML plastic version and the detail is identical, my ammo drum fits my DiD MG fine, altho I broke the bipod by screwing it in
too much.

I think Zeller is the best of the bunch.

Thank you all for your input. I think I will get myself a Zeller and may be a Peter Greim( I really like the gun) as well. I already had the Hanke with MG42.
Thanks again!!! |

Bubba's Basement has Greim for $45 shipped. I've ordered from him many times with no problems.

What about Georg Sanders? Wasn't he a WSS GJ Machine gunner? (got the MG42 wrong -should be MG34 for "Nord")
Plus you get the best feldbluse availiable IMHO |

Paul's right...with george sander, you get a good MG that wont make your figures topple over, the most detailed M36 availible anywhere (I compared it to
one in my 1:1th collecton, the only difference is its smaller and the buttons dont work), and you get a fur field cap and blurred edge facemask. Light on gear
though. And the headsculpt looks kinda like that creepy old guy your parents didn't want you to go near when you were a kid (but so do a few other
sculpts...).
